Welcome to Freedom Field Horse Sanctuary! Located at Langwater Farm in Georgetown, Massachusetts, our nonprofit is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of horses in need. Our mission is to provide a sanctuary where these majestic creatures can heal and thrive. At Freedom Field, we offer a variety of programs aimed at incorporating rescued horses back into everyday life. Through careful assessment of their capabilities, we determine the best next steps for each horse.
Our "Sponsor a Horse" program allows assigned volunteers to work closely with the horses, providing critical care and skills necessary for their return to normal, healthy living. Once our equine friends have adjusted and, if capable, they have the option to become part of the farm's Camp and Pony Club programs, giving them a job and meaningful attention. As our sanctuary grows, we aspire to establish an adoption program, matching horses with the right adopters for lifelong companionship.
Our farm serves as a haven for horses transitioning back to normal life, providing essential veterinary and farrier care upon their arrival. Additionally, we offer programs for children in need, allowing them to work with the horses for mutual benefit.
At Freedom Field Horse Sanctuary, our focus is on fostering meaningful connections and providing a nurturing, positive environment for all beings involved. Join us in our mission to make a difference, one hoofbeat at a time.
Sweetheart is a rescue from Pennsylvania. When we were first introduced to the horse, she was with a notorious shipper of slaughter horses. They were preparing to send her on a shipment to Mexico later in the week. Sweetie is a 12 year old Saddlebred and has spent most of her life as a riding and driving horse. When we bailed her from the pen, we provided immediate vet, farrier and quarantine services. We could tell from photos that she had an eye injury. When she arrived to us, our vet confirmed she had serious trauma to the eye, which probably was how she ended being dumped for slaughter. We have been readjusting her into normal life, introducing her to grain and other horse friends here on the farm. She has several volunteers who have spent a considerable amount of time gaining her trust and teaching her not all humans are bad. We can tell from the whip marks on her back that she has been handled with a heavy hand. She is a very sweet and willing girl and we look forward to what the future brings for her.
Peanut was dumped by her former owners when they decided to move to Florida. After 6+ months of living on her own and foraging for food, authorities finally picked up her and her mini friends and they were heading to slaughter. Once we heard her story, we offered a place of sanctuary and she has incorporated into our family and farm!
